Christmas at Brighton Silver.
It’s that time of year again, the little lull before the storm. The summer rush is as far in the past as the Christmas one is in the future. It’s the middle ground. The time when everything slows for just a moment while we all secretly wonder just how early is too early when it comes to Christmas.
Anyone who works in retail planning will agree that July is about the right time to start thinking about Christmas. I have to admit that I’ve been singing Good King Wenceslas in my head for over 3 months now and I still don’t know all the words. I do know that I’ve got another 7 weeks to go so I may have to break out The Pogue’s Fairy Tale of New York a little early this year. Luckily, I haven't had to resort to Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody just yet so I think we’re ok.
Christmas at Brighton Silver is a little different to your average shop. We set up our store outside all year round, no matter what the weather throws at us.
Everyone enjoys being out in the sun in t-shirt and shorts but I think it takes a certain type of person to want to be outside in winter. Most, I expect would call it craziness but, I doubt any of us working here would want to change it. (I’m not sure what that says about us but it lends itself to a great working environment.)
I think the run up to Christmas is an especially fun time to work at Brighton Silver. Kensington Gardens is a pretty amazing street at the best of times but at Christmas it’s almost magical. The hustle and bustle of everything, the warm glow from the shops on the brick pavement and the Christmas lights running above it all seem to set the scene for what I think (and many agree) is a picture perfect destination.
